Loyalty card app

The best loyalty app is no app at all

Almost every loyalty product starts by asking your customer to install something. That single request is where most programs quietly die: a person standing at a counter with a coffee in one hand will not download an app, create an account and verify an email to save a stamp.

TapCard skips it. The card installs into the wallet already on the phone, in one tap, with no account to create.

What replaces the app

Apple Wallet and Google Wallet are already on effectively every phone, already trusted with bank cards and boarding passes, and already on the lock screen. Your loyalty card becomes one more pass sitting alongside them.

Because it is a wallet pass rather than an app, it updates itself. When a stamp is added the card changes in the customer's pocket without them opening anything.

Nothing to install, nothing to delete

An app has to earn its place on a home screen against WhatsApp and the camera, and it loses. A wallet pass does not compete for that space, so it is not deleted in the next storage clear-out.

There is also nothing to keep updated. No app store review, no version that stops working on an older phone, no push permission to beg for.

  • One tap to add, from a QR code on your counter
  • No account, no password, no email verification
  • Works the same on iPhone and Android
  • Updates arrive without the customer doing anything

What staff use

Staff need something, but not an app store download either. The TapCard scanner opens in the phone browser and can be pinned to the home screen. Staff sign in with their own phone number and a PIN, so every stamp is attributed to the person who added it.

Busy counters can skip the scan entirely: a signed one-time code printed on the receipt lets the customer add their own stamp at the table. Each code works once, expires in 20 minutes, and cannot be reused or forged.

When you would genuinely want an app

If you need ordering, delivery tracking or a menu with payment, that is an app, and a loyalty card is a small part of it. TapCard is for the loyalty half specifically, and it will happily sit alongside an ordering app you already have.

What we would not recommend is building an app so that customers can collect stamps. The stamps are not worth the install.

Frequently asked questions

Do customers need to download an app?

No. The card goes into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, which is already on the phone. There is nothing to install and no account to create.

Is there a TapCard app in the App Store?

There is no customer app by design. Staff use the scanner, which runs in a browser and can be pinned to the home screen like an app.

What if a customer has neither wallet app?

Both come preinstalled on modern iPhones and Android phones. In the rare case one has been removed, it can be reinstalled free, and staff can still look a customer up by phone number in the meantime.

How does the card update if there is no app?

Wallet passes update over the air. When staff add a stamp, Apple and Google push the change to the customer's phone, usually within seconds.
